Submittal review questions, answered.

How BuildAhead automates submittal review, how citations keep grading honest, and how that compares to doing it manually.

How does AI submittal review work with BuildAhead?

BuildAhead turns your specs, drawings, contracts, and addenda into a citation-backed submittal register, then grades packages against that register.

The workflow runs in stages: ingest and classify documents, generate register and technical-requirement rows linked to exact source blocks, pre-flight incomplete packages with deterministic checklist checks, and grade each requirement against the submittal with Pass, Fail, Not Found, or Manual Review — each with reasoning and citations on both sides.

Project managers keep the final say. Every AI suggestion can be overridden with a recorded reason.

How accurate is citation-backed submittal grading?

Accuracy is enforced by grounding, not by asking the model to sound confident. If BuildAhead cannot ground a verdict in a source quote, it reports Not Found or Manual Review — never a fabricated answer.

Pre-flight completeness checks are deterministic and auditable line by line. Analysis verdicts carry block-level evidence: the exact paragraph, table, or list on the exact page, with visible source-page highlights for human verification.

BuildAhead outputs are decision support for qualified professionals, not a replacement for professional judgment.

How does BuildAhead compare to manual submittal review?

Manual review means engineers comparing PDFs, chasing addendum supersession, and validating commitments line by line — work that often takes weeks for a full register and still leaves gaps in the audit trail.

BuildAhead automates register prep and requirement extraction so engineers focus on judgment calls. Incomplete packages are flagged before deep review. Every decision — AI or human override — lands in a forensic, append-only audit trail ready for dispute or arbitration.

The goal is not to remove people from the loop. It is to give them a verifiable source of truth so manual effort goes where it matters.

    Who is BuildAhead for?

BuildAhead is built for general contractors — specifically the mid-market GCs whose schedule and reputation ride on getting submittal packages approved the first time.

Inside that team it serves two roles. Project and commercial leads get faster register prep, exposure visible before it becomes a claim, and an override trail their teams can defend. Project engineers and document controllers get an auto-generated register, deterministic pre-flight on incoming packages, and addendum supersession tracked rather than remembered.

What construction documents does BuildAhead work with?

Specs, drawings, contracts, and addenda — including large multi-section CSI sets. The platform classifies documents at ingest, builds citation-ready evidence with source-page highlights, and tracks addendum supersession so re-uploads do not wipe human edits and verifications.

Does BuildAhead train AI models on customer documents?

No. BuildAhead does not train AI models on customer documents. Customer project content stays in the tenant workflow for extraction, analysis, and audit — it is not used as training data for foundation models.

Can I try BuildAhead on a closed-out project before buying?

Yes. That is exactly what the Founding Partner Program is. You nominate one division of a project your team has already reviewed, approved, and closed; BuildAhead runs it end to end and reports the requirements and non-compliant packages that were missed, each finding cited to the exact clause on the exact page.

A closed project is the point, not a limitation: because you already know how the job turned out, you can judge every finding against ground truth you trust rather than taking our word for it. Findings come back in five business days. Counted from the day your complete document set lands, not from the day you apply. The findings call is booked separately, around your team's calendar.

Does BuildAhead work on projects outside the United States?

Yes. BuildAhead is built for general contractors in the United States, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE, and reads the standards and contract forms those projects are actually written against: ASTM, ACI, BS/EN, and the Saudi Building Code, under AIA or FIDIC-based submittal workflows. SBC and British Standard citations resolve against the standards registry, so a spec still citing a withdrawn standard such as BS 8110 is flagged.

Two things are still being hardened, and we would rather say so: source documents are handled in English today, with Arabic in active build, and superseded-edition detection covers ASTM, ACI and the Eurocodes but not yet SBC. Both are what a founding partner in the Gulf helps us finish. Hosting is available in the US and the Middle East for projects with data-residency requirements.
